A University of Houston study highlighted the television remotes and bedside lamp switches are the least cleaned due to being the most touched places in the room. Research found they often had as much bacteria as bathroom toilet seats and sinks! It's a good reason to bring with you a handy holiday spray sanitizer...!



#3 Hotel Bathroom Glasses

Fox News reveals that many hotel maids do not wash the bathroom glasses out with soap before the next guests arrives. Try to use bottled water, or ask the hotel clerk for plastic cups to be safe...!



#4 Hotel Comforters & Blankets

The bed is what's used the most in your hotel room for ALL guests, as it's often the main furniture for seating or much else within a limited space. For instance moms will change baby's diapers on the large bed comforter and blankets, and yet those aren't washed daily. The only way around this, is to check reviews for hotel cleanliness to be aware of other guest experiences...!



#5 Hotel Items NOT Free

Just be aware that while pens and brochures that "advertise" the hotel are often free to use and take, items such as bathrobes, slippers may not be. The website Travelodge lists items being taken out their rooms that guests aren't allowed to take, but you can simply call the hotel too, to get exactly what you can take with you for free...!



#6 Threats For Hotel 'Perks'

It's better not to assume "threats" of a bad TripAdvisor review will gain you hotel perks or upgrades. The hotels are savvy and have a way to report "threats" before a review is submitted. TripAdvisor in turn has fraud detection experts and will investigate for evidence of threatening behavior before a bad reviews ever reaches their site...



#7 The Minibar I

If you've stayed in a hotel before you might've experienced this: hotel refreshments taken from the fridge costs exorbitant prices, charged to you as a "restocking fee". A study done at New York University's hospitality school found these fees add an, "extra two per cent in revenue and most of that money is pure profit for the hotel".!!!

Also if you add your own food items to the fridge, you can still be charged with a large charge. Call the hotel ahead of your stay to find out about any fees upon bringing your own fridge refreshments. Also some hotels even prohibit guests from bringing outside ready made meals into their hotel rooms...

If you do decide to have a drink from the minibar, it's a good idea to watch what you're drinking, check if the container's been opened. Among stories from hotel workers, one mentioned how she stumbled upon a guest's sneaky attempt to dodge a minibar bill, by refilling an empty whisky bottle with urine. . . What a horrible surprise THAT would be..!!



#10 The Coffee Machine

ABC News did a hotel investigation and revealed cleaners won't always wash the coffee pot, instead one in Cincinnati, Ohio, was found to clean the pot with a bottle of Lysol mildew remover, and another was captured on video using the same cloth to clean the coffee maker as she had used to clean the bathroom floor." Yikes...!!
